When is it time for a haircut?

You can tell that it's time for their first haircut if the hair is fuzzy, getting in their eyes or frayed at the ends. In general, there is no "right" time or age for children to get their first haircut, but it is important to keep their hair trimmed and looking healthy.

Build up the Excitement

Talk to them about the haircut, letting your little one know that this is a big part of growing up and how fun it is. Get their excitement brewing well before their appointment by acting as if you are even more excited about it than they are.

Pass by the salon before your appointment

We highly recommend you and your little one visit us a few days before you have your appointment booked. When visiting the salon just let a member of staff know that they are booked in for a first hair cut and that you would like to just have a look around. The dolls will be more than happy to let you have a seat in one of the cars and really get a feel of the salon after all it's not just about the haircut it's about the memorable and fun experience too. Also, letting your child watch another child have their haircut can familiarise them with the process. Come in 15 minutes before the appointment

Make it a fun day! Come in 15 minutes or so before your appointment to play with the toys in the salon. Relaxing before the haircut will also help. If you know what kind of haircut you'd like, this is a perfect time to explain the cut to your stylist. A bag full of their favourite treats, whether it is raisins, crisps or sweets they are always very handy.

Helping out before your appointment

Before your appointment it is always advised that you brush through your child's tangles, this will help both the stylist and your child. If your child is happy having their haircut but not with the water spray then feel free to wash their hair before you come in so that it is already wet and ready for the stylist.
